President’s Address, 2024

By Dr. Joanne Jia

Dear members of the Chinese Canadian Medical Association,

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as CCMSBC president starting this year.

With so many struggles and changes in the last few years following the Covid pandemic, we find ourselves in an unusually complex and difficult health care environment. Our community faces serious challenges including a shortage of doctors and health care resources. However, we remain dedicated to what drew us all to medicine in the first place – caring for patients. More than ever, we need strong physician organizations like ours at every level. Our collaboration and encouragement of one another gives us the capability to address these challenges.

I’m proud of our doctors and medical students who in small and large ways keep working to educate our communities. Your continued dedication to our annual Health Fair with SUCCESS makes a huge difference.

We continue to be committed to health and racial equity. We are working towards a future where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain the highest level of healthcare in Canada.

I want to thank all the board directors for your excellent service. I look forward to working with all of our
members to serve our community and beyond. One thing I will focus on is improving how the CCMS communicates with our members. We will use social media and new avenues to link our members closer together.

Next year is our landmark 40th anniversary. We will celebrate 40 years of fellowship and service to the community with exciting events.

I hope you will find time to rest and connect with loved ones during the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

With gratitude,

Dr. Joanne Jia
President, CCMSBC
