Scholarship 2025

The CCMSBC Scholarship 2025 has been officially announced at the CCMSBC Gala on June 14, 2025. Congratulations to the award winners!

Vickie Wang

Vickie Wang is a 2nd year Microbiology and Immunology student at the University of British Columbia. Beyond her academic pursuits, Vickie is grateful for the opportunity to explore her interests in healthcare through volunteering at hospitals and research centres, where she helps digitize cancer pathology slides and create educational exhibits. These experiences have deepened her appreciation for the people and work that drive patient care and medical discovery. As a certified First Responder, she has also contributed over 250 hours to supporting her community in emergency situations.

Outside of science, Vickie enjoys being involved in the arts and student life. She plays violin in the UBC Symphony Orchestra, races with the UBC Current dragon boat team, and helps bring theatre productions to life as a stage manager and prop designer with the UBC Players Club. In her free time, she enjoys biking, painting, reading, and crocheting.

Vickie is especially thankful for the teams, mentors, and peers who have shaped her journey so far. She feels honoured to be part of such a supportive and inspiring community and is excited to keep learning and growing in both science and the arts.

Catherine Hwang

I would like to extend my gratitude to the CCMS committee for presenting me with this award. Receiving this award is a great honour, and inspires me to dedicate myself to the path that many other members of the CCMS went down. After this year, I cannot wait to see the next youth who will earn this award. I just finished my first year of university at UBC for sciences, and am going to enter my second year in Biology. I aim to continue down this path, while also volunteering at hospitals and clinics in Vancouver to gain experience and also fuel my passion for the path I want to go down. In my upcoming years, I hope to gain experience by researching in labs and continue to experience many more opportunities that can further foster my interest in science. Again, I would like to thank the committee for this scholarship, and the opportunities that it continues to open for youth pursuing medicine.
